Cost Accountant
A North Dallas manufacturing client is seeking a Cost Accountant. They will own the accuracy and integrity of all cost accounting functions.
GENERAL DESRIPTION:
Our client is seeking a Cost Accountant to play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of cost accounting and inventory valuation within a manufacturing environment. Reporting to the FP&A Manager, this role partners closely with Operations and Supply Chain to improve cost visibility, support profitability analysis, and strengthen financial controls. The Cost Accountant will be responsible for standard cost development, variance analysis, and inventory reporting, while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and ERP enhancements.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and maintain standard costs for materials, labor, and overhead within the ERP system, including BOMs and routings

Analyze production cost variances, including material usage, labor efficiency, and overhead absorption; investigate root causes and support corrective actions

Ensure accurate inventory valuation for raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods in compliance with GAAP

Manage inventory reserves, including excess and obsolete inventory analysis

Oversee physical inventory counts and cycle count programs

Reconcile inventory sub-ledgers to the general ledger and resolve discrepancies

Perform margin and cost trend analysis to support operational and profitability decisions

Prepare monthly cost and inventory reporting for finance and operations leadership

Support annual budgeting and periodic forecasting related to manufacturing costs

Participate in ERP upgrades, reporting enhancements, and system process improvements

Drive continuous improvement in accounting controls, data accuracy, and reporting efficiency

Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Supply Chain, and FP&A teams
QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

Minimum of 3 years of cost accounting experience within a manufacturing environment

Hands-on experience maintaining standard costs and inventory modules within an ERP system (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics)

Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with exceptional attention to detail

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial partners
