Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the VP, Transportation for a large manufacturer of pre-blended, packaged concrete and cementitious products. Services the commercial, residential and industrial building, repair and rehabilitation project sector. Private fleet of over 1,600 company drivers, 2,200 flatbed, tanker, and dump trailers, and over 270 plants with a spend of $500 million annually.
The Corporate Transportation Director’s primary function is to develop and implement transportation strategies that result in best-in-class customer service and safety, while minimizing total transportation spend. The primary focus of this position is geared toward the management of the company’s private fleet. Improve the safe operation of the company truck fleet as measured by FMCSA and company metrics. Develop and implement driver recruiting and retention strategies to ensure appropriate driver staffing levels are maintained. Ensure fleet is optimally sized to provide outstanding customer service while minimizing the investment in transportation. Collaborate with individuals at all levels of the company to identify ways to continuously improve all aspects of transportation operations. Ensures compliance to company policies and FMCSA regulations. Perform accident investigations and ensure that all documentation and video evidence is maintained as required by FMCSA and company policy. Oversees IFTA, IRP, UCR, and other programs related to the registration of the company’s tractors and trailers. Develop training programs for transportation managers, dispatchers, drivers, and other team personnel. Work with various equipment, fuel, maintenance, and compliance vendors to ensure contracts and pricing are adhered to.
