Controls Engineering Manager

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Controls Engineering Manager to lead our Systems Engineering team in either Indianapolis or Evansville, Indiana. In this senior management role, you will be principally responsible for overseeing a group of control system engineers, driving technical strategy, innovation, product delivery, and continuous improvement. You'll be engaging directly with customers to align engineering capabilities with their requirements and leading projects from conception through to execution. This is a pivotal role that combines both technical expertise and leadership skills to not only manage but also strategically guide our engineering endeavors to achieve business objectives and maintain competitiveness in the industry.

Salary: Up to $155,000 per year

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Frequent communication and interfacing with customer engineering teams to discuss engineering capabilities and coordinate project activities.
  • Broad knowledge application of controls and power conversions across various industries and equipment.
  • Project management including cost estimation, labor forecasting, contingency planning, and prioritization.
  • Translate customer needs into actionable company plans and products.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on industry technologies and trends, conduct competitive analyses.
  • Develop product strategies and roadmaps, aligning with overall business goals.
  • Create and implement functional product specifications and manage the product lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with Business Development and Product Development teams to define growth strategies.
  • Coordinate new product introductions across multiple departments.
  • Manage and prioritize engineering project pipelines and maintain budgetary oversight.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, Power, Software, Physics, or Computer Engineering.
  • At least 10 years of experience in engineering roles.
  • Over 15 years of industry-related experience, particularly in electric machines, drives, controls, and systems.
  • Proven track record of managing product development life cycles and implementing product roadmaps.
  • Extensive knowledge in controls, drives, and rotating electrical machines, particularly in industrial settings.
  • Strong project management, problem-solving, and troubleshooting capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Science or Business Administration.
  • Direct experience with mining system applications such as electric mining shovels and haul trucks.
  • Demonstrated success in translating key customer requirements into detailed multi-generational product specifications.
  • Experience with engineering tools and systems, including simulators, modeling, and statistical analysis.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of interfacing effectively with both technical teams and senior leaders.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills necessary for team collaboration and external engagement.
  • High degree of organization and attention to detail, with strong time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with business ERP systems.
  • Decision-making skills, particularly in non-routine situations, anticipating potential issues before they arise.
