Job Description:

The Controls Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing a team of controls and Robot engineers, and the execution of control system design, implementation, and maintenance for automation projects. This role requires a strong understanding of automation technologies, project management, and leadership.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Team Leadership:

· Recruit, hire, train, and manage a team of controls engineers.

· Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

· Set clear expectations, provide guidance, and support professional development.

Control System Design:

· Oversee the design and development of control systems for automation projects.

· Ensure that control systems meet project requirements and comply with industry standards.

· Review and approve control system designs, schematics, programs, safety layouts/calculations and documentation.

Technical Expertise:

· Provide technical guidance and expertise to the controls engineering team.

· Stay up-to-date with advancements in automation and control technologies.

· Troubleshoot complex control system issues and provide solutions.

Project Management:

· Manage and coordinate automation projects from inception to completion.

· Develop project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation plans.

· Monitor project progress and ensure adherence to timelines and budgets.

Collaboration and Communication:

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, sales engineers, and project managers.

· Communicate project status and technical details to clients and internal stakeholders.

Quality Assurance:

· Establish and enforce quality control standards for control system designs and programs.

· Implement testing and validation procedures to ensure reliable and efficient systems.

· Understand and implement standards for complex and custom procedures and processes

Regulatory Compliance:

· Ensure that control systems meet regulatory requirements and safety standards.

· Assist in obtaining necessary certifications or approvals for projects.

Change Management:

· Implement effective change management strategies as needed to support program objectives.

· Ensure that changes are communicated and executed smoothly.

· Performs other job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related field (Relevant experience in a technical management role will also be considered)

· 10+ years of proven experience in automation controls engineering, with a strong background in designing and implementing control systems.

· Leadership experience and demonstrated ability to manage and mentor a team.

· In-depth knowledge of automation technologies, PLCs, HMIs, motion control, Safety devices, machine vision, specialized solutions and mixed control system programming methods.

· Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage budgets and timelines.

· Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

· Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

· Strong team and delegation skills
