The Controls Engineer is responsible for complete electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic design of custom manufactured automated machinery. This includes, but is not limited to engineering, designing, programming, debugging and troubleshooting. At Altron, each project is different and incorporates new technology and improvements. This is a full time role. As a engineer you will be provided support and guidance to allow you to execute these roles as you grow into the engineering role.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Determines the extent and type of controls required to construct the assigned machines.

· Sizes all electric, pneumatic and hydraulic components.

· Contacts vendors for information needed.

· Programs logic controllers and any other components necessary including, but not limited to, robots, servo drivers, displays and remote interfaces.

· Progresses with designs of multiple machines.

· Generates bills of material, controls schematics and software required for controls construction.

· Reviews with mechanical engineering intent for machine construction.

· Resolves problems encountered by manufacturing.

· Troubleshoots machines at the customer’s facility. Time may be considerable depending on the complexity of the machines.

· Conducts operator and maintenance training (may be required at the customer’s facility).

· Travel as needed, approximately 20 to 25% (may include international travel).

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

· Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field, with Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering highly preferred -- (Applicable years of experience and education may be considered).

·PLC and/or PC programming ability.

· Strong troubleshooting skills essential.

· Understanding of hardware engineering.

· Mechanical aptitude.

· Ability to read and draw controls schematics.

· Willing and able to travel as needed (20 to 25% highly preferred).

·Experience with MS Office.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Allen Bradley or Siemens experience
  • In-vehicle network experience such as CAN, LIN, or KWORD 2000.
  • Experience in Visual Basic or C#.
  • experience in the programming of serial and network communication interfaces (RS 232/422, Ethernet).
  • Understanding of machine building practices (wiring, plumbing, etc.)
  • Experience in CAD drafting software.
  • Object oriented programming experience.
  • Familiarity with Windows programming.
  • The drive and desire to learn any of the above!
