Controller
Our client is a multi-generational family-owned professional services business based in Tacoma, WA. They’re seeking a Corporate Controller to be the go-to person to make sure their financial reports are accurate and follow all the right rules. The Controller will keep their financial statements in check, ensure they meet all regulatory requirements, and put effective financial controls in place. They will take the lead in preparing consolidated financial statements and operational reports, perform detailed account reconciliations, and provide strategic financial insights to help make informed decisions to scale for future success.
Essential Functions:
- Financial Management and Reporting: Lead the preparation of consolidated financial statements and business activity reports. Coordinate the financial statement reviews to ensure compliance with federal, state and bank requirements. Manage accounting and reporting for a portfolio of multiple entities. Oversee the revenue recognition process.
- Financial Planning and Strategy: Coordinate and direct financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, procurement, and investment activities. Advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions.
- Asset Management: Manage the portfolio of leases to optimize financial results. Advise on purchase, lease, or disposal actions for capital assets. Perform due diligence and purchase accounting activities for acquisitions, as necessary.
- Payroll: Oversee all aspects of employee payroll and benefits. Manage financials related to self-insurance of medical plan.
- Tax: Prepare and file annual tax returns or provide financial information for external accountants. Perform other tax planning activities.
- Cash and Investment Management: Monitor cash flow and reserve levels.
- Internal Controls and Compliance: Optimize current accounting processes for scalable growth and cost optimization. Develop, document and maintain internal controls.
- Leadership and Development: Supervise and evaluate the performance of accounting and financial staff. Lead staff training and development in accounting and reporting areas.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Management, or a related field required. MBA preferred.
- 5-10 years in accounting or financial management required.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) active license in good standing required.
- Professional accounting certifications such as CIA, CMA, CFE nice to have.
- Proficiency in computer software and systems including, but not limited to Sage Intacct, Visio, billing systems, and web-based portals nice to have.
Compensation:
- Salary: up to $160,000 base salary plus annual performance incentives
- Health, Vision, Dental Insurance within 30 days of hire
- 401K after 1 year, with 100% match up to 3% plus 50% match up to 6%
