Our client is an established provider of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy for children with autism, which operates multiple centers across Maryland and Virginia, serving hundreds of families with a large team of clinicians and staff, and is committed to high-quality, family-centered care.

This role is an internal Controller to lead accounting and financial reporting, partner with executive leadership, and manage key external service providers across accounting, revenue cycle, and payroll. This is a senior foundational role responsible for owning and optimizing the company’s accounting function and supporting financial decision-making in a growing healthcare services environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own month-end close cycle, including oversight of outsourced accounting and validation of financials
  • Manage accounts receivable and revenue cycle finance (aging, collections validation, adjustments, denials reconciliation)
  • Oversee treasury and banking (cash forecasting, banking relationships, covenant compliance)
  • Supervise accounts payable workflows and vendor management
  • Partner on payroll accounting and reconciliation
  • Maintain internal controls and financial processes
  • Prepare financial reporting, including P&L reviews, variance analysis, and board materials
  • Manage external partners (accounting, tax, revenue cycle, audit, lenders)

Qualifications (Required)

  • Active CPA license
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • 3+ years as Controller or Assistant Controller
  • Healthcare, behavioral health, or multi-site services experience
  • Experience managing month-end close in-house
  • Experience overseeing outsourced accounting providers
  • Strong accounts receivable / revenue cycle experience in payor-billed environments
  • ERP experience (Sage Intacct preferred; NetSuite, Workday, or Microsoft Dynamics acceptable)
  • Multi-entity, multi-state accounting experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in ABA, autism services, or pediatric behavioral health
  • Background in private equity-backed companies
  • Familiarity with healthcare EHR systems
  • Presence in the DC/Maryland area

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $170,000 – $200,000
  • Annual bonus: 15% (performance-based)

  • Hybrid schedule: 3 days per week in the Columbia, MD office
