Controller
We are partnering with one of Southern Ontario's largest Residential building on the search for a Controller. The Corporate Controller will oversee the company’s accounting operations with a primary focus on consolidated financial reporting across multiple legal entities. This role ensures the accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of financial statements prepared under ASPE, while supporting strategic, corporate-level decision-making.
Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, the Controller will lead a team of accounting professionals and play a key role in maintaining strong internal controls, standardized reporting processes, and financial compliance across the organization. The Controller will oversee three direct reports: Senior Property Accountant, Accounting Manager, and Accounts Payable Supervisor.
This is a hands-on, onsite leadership role within a highly respected, award-winning residential builder.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare and review consolidated financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements

Oversee multi-entity consolidation, intercompany accounting, eliminations, and reconciliations

Develop and maintain financial models to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic decision-making

Maintain and continuously enhance internal controls over financial reporting

Analyze financial metrics, KPIs, and variances, providing insights to senior leadership

Standardize accounting policies, procedures, and reporting processes across all legal entities

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance on complex accounting matters

Support external audits and act as the primary liaison with auditors for consolidated audits

Collaborate closely with the VP of Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning

Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices in financial reporting and controls
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
-
CPA (Canada or U.S.) or ACCA designation strongly preferred
-
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3–5 years in consolidated reporting

Strong knowledge of ASPE

Proven experience with multi-entity organizations, intercompany transactions, and consolidations

Experience with financial systems; Microsoft Dynamics experience is an asset

Demonstrated ability to build and utilize financial models for business decision-making

Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver accurate results in a deadline-driven environment
