Company Overview
Our client is a leading provider in the trucking and waste management industry, offering comprehensive logistics, waste collection, and recycling solutions to commercial, industrial, and residential customers.
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join our team. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulations, and the implementation of efficient financial processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, excellent analytical skills, and experience in the trucking or waste management industry. Must have the ability to think out of the box.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and oversee the preparation of timely and accurate financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Manage all accounting operations, including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger functions for multiple companies.
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
- Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.
- Coordinate external audits and implement audit recommendations.
- Monitor cash flow, manage working capital, and optimize cash management processes.
- Oversee treasury functions, including bank reconciliations and cash forecasting.
- Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making.
- Analyze financial data and trends to identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
- Lead and develop the accounting team, providing guidance, training, and performance management.
- Evaluate and enhance accounting systems and processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Prior experience in the trucking, waste management, or related industry is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems; experience with Microsoft Dynamics is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead and develop a high-performing team.
- Must be a hands-on person who is not afraid to roll-up their sleeves and dive into all aspects of the department.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Ability to work in an office environment with occasional travel to company locations as needed.
- May require extended hours during peak periods.
