Position Title: Plant Controller

The Opportunity

This is a high‑impact leadership role at one of the organization’s largest and most operationally complex manufacturing plants. The facility is a major turnaround environment, requiring a strategic, experienced financial leader who can elevate performance, strengthen accuracy, and become a trusted business partner to plant leadership.

The Plant Controller will influence operational success immediately by tightening financial processes, improving internal controls, elevating month‑end accuracy, and providing analysis that drives critical decisions. With inventory, a corrugator, converting operations, capital project activity, and a $50–$100M revenue environment, the person stepping into this role will shape financial rigor, improve business outcomes, and contribute meaningfully to a plant undergoing significant transformation.

This is not simply an accounting job—it is the chance to own the financial narrative, impact strategy, and bring stability, discipline, and partnership to a high‑visibility operation.

The Company

The organization is a well‑established, growth‑oriented manufacturing company that provides end‑to‑end production capabilities across multiple product lines. It operates with a strong focus on employee well‑being, operational excellence, continuous improvement, and long‑term sustainability.

The culture is collaborative and empowering, offering employees opportunities for continuous learning, career development, and meaningful impact. The team embraces diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, recognizing that a strong workforce drives strong business results. The work environment is supportive, dynamic, and positioned for ongoing growth within a stable and sustainable industry.

The Boss

The Plant Controller will report directly to the General Manager and Plant Leadership Team, serving as the primary financial partner at the site. The leadership style is collaborative, fast‑paced, and highly engaged, expecting a Controller who:

  • Communicates proactively
  • Provides clear, actionable financial insight
  • Helps improve operational decision‑making
  • Brings stability, thoroughness, and long‑term commitment

The leadership team values a hands‑on financial partner who can operate independently, elevate accuracy, and support both strategic and day‑to‑day operational needs.

The Position

The Plant Controller oversees all financial operations at the manufacturing site and plays a central role in shaping plant strategy and performance. Responsibilities include accounting management, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting, inventory control, and capital project evaluation.

The role includes leadership of the on‑site accounting team, with discussions underway regarding the future addition of an Assistant Controller, offering a continued leadership growth pathway.

This position requires someone capable of stepping into complexity, improving processes, and elevating the plant’s financial clarity and discipline.

Essential Functions (Other duties may be assigned):

  • Partner with plant leadership to interpret financial performance and identify operational inefficiencies.
  • Provide proactive, unsolicited financial insight and education across the plant.
  • Lead all accounting operations: General Ledger, Inventory Control, Cost Accounting, and financial reporting.
  • Own the month‑end close process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and GAAP compliance.
  • Manage the plant’s annual budget development, forecasting, and planning cycles.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and audit readiness to protect company assets.
  • Lead capital project financial analysis, including ROI modeling and equipment evaluation.
  • Develop and manage accounting staff; set expectations and provide performance reviews.
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial processes, systems, and modeling.
  • Collaborate effectively across functions and with corporate finance partners.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in finance or plant controlling.
  • Strong manufacturing and cost accounting expertise required; experience in a corrugated environment strongly preferred due to plant complexity.
  • Experience supporting financial operations in a larger manufacturing facility (corrugator + converting + inventory).
  • Proven ability to tighten controls, increase accuracy, and improve processes.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex information.
  • Highly motivated, proactive, detail‑oriented, and committed to accuracy.
  • Willingness to relocate; relocation support available.
  • Desire for stability — ideally seeking someone who can support the plant for at least 5+ years.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business, with coursework in Intermediate Accounting and Cost Accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
  • Experience with ERP and production systems; Amtech experience preferred.
