Controller
Position Summary
The Controller will lead all accounting and financial reporting functions for the franchisor entity and for wholly company-owned retail store locations and associated warehouse operations within the immediate geographic area. This role is responsible for accurate financial reporting, franchise accounting, internal controls, and financial support of both franchise and company-owned operations.
The Controller will manage and develop the accounting team members who support the franchisor and company-owned entities, ensure strong internal controls across multiple entities and locations, and partner closely with executive leadership, operations, and franchise support teams to ensure financial integrity, scalability, and compliance.
Key ResponsibilitiesFranchisor Accounting & Financial Reporting
· Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close for the franchisor entity
· Prepare and review GAAP-compliant financial statements
· Manage accounting for initial franchise fees and other franchise-related revenue
· Oversee intercompany transactions between franchisor, company-owned locations, and related entities
Company-Owned Store & Warehouse Accounting
· Oversee full-cycle accounting for wholly company-owned retail locations, including sales, inventory, cost of goods sold, payroll, and operating expenses
· Support and oversee accounting for warehouse and installation functions, including inventory valuation, freight, and intercompany transfers
· Ensure consistent accounting policies, procedures, and controls across all owned locations and operational entities
· Partner with operations leadership to support financial visibility, margin analysis, and cost control initiatives
Cash Management
- Monitor daily cash positions and ensure adequate liquidity across accounts.
- Manage cash inflows and outflows to support operational and strategic needs.
- Oversee bank accounts, signatories, and electronic banking platforms.
- Optimize working capital through effective cash concentration and pooling.
Treasury Operations
- Prepare short-term and long-term cash flow forecasts.
- Execute and monitor payments, collections, and intercompany funding.
- Manage debt, credit facilities, and covenant compliance.
Royalty, Fees & Brand Funds
· Ensure accurate calculation, billing, and collection of franchise royalties and fees
· Manage accounting and reporting for advertising and brand funds
Franchise Compliance & Support
· Support franchise compliance reporting requirements
· Prepare Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD) financial exhibits
· Respond to franchisee financial inquiries and support audit and regulatory requests
Controls, Compliance & Audit
· Design, implement, and maintain strong internal controls across franchisor and company-owned entities
· Coordinate external audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting
· Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable franchise and regulatory requirements
Financial Analysis & Strategic Support
· Provide financial analysis and insights to executive leadership
· Support strategic initiatives, system-wide growth, and new franchise development
· Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis for both franchised and company-owned operations
Leadership & Team Management
· Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members supporting franchisor and company-owned entities
· Establish clear workflows, accountability, and cross-entity coordination within the accounting function
· Drive process improvements, system enhancements, cross training, and scalability across a multi-entity environment
QualificationsRequired
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
· 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles
· Strong GAAP and financial reporting expertise
· Experience in a multi-entity environment, including franchisor, retail, or operational businesses
· Advanced Excel skills and accounting system proficiency
Preferred
· CPA designation
· Experience with FDD preparation and franchise compliance
· ERP experience (Sage Intacct or similar)
· Experience supporting retail, warehouse, or inventory-driven operations
