This position is a part of our leadership team and paramount to our success. The Controller will be
responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting operational functions, managing the
accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of business
results, and coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements.
Day-to-day work will involve managing and overseeing all aspects of accounting for a medium-sized
retail establishment, along with working with the other members of the leadership team to drive change
and hit goals throughout the organization. In this role you will direct a small accounting team of five
personnel, including an AP Supervisor (three additional staff) and a Staff Accountant.
Duties
• Analyze financial information and prepare financial reports to determine and maintain a record
of assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liability, and other financial activity of the company.
• Prepare monthly Income Statement and Balance Sheet after examining, and analyzing
accounting records to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standard procedure.
• Manage the financial reporting, accounts payable, invoicing, general ledger, and balance sheet
account reconciliations.
• Compute taxes owed to City and State locales and prepare and file tax returns in a timely
manner.
• Accounts Payable - Approve, identify, and pay all vendor/expense items in a timely manner.
• Review reports monthly with management.
• Troubleshoot issues and develop and nurture positive relationships with suppliers.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent work experience required.
• 5 to 7 years of progressive retail accounting experience in positions of increasing responsibility.
• Inventory management experience is preferred.
• Public accounting experience is a plus.
• Must possess excellent communication skills both written and oral.
• Experience with managing financial reporting, accounts payable, invoicing, general ledger, and
payroll.
• Strong analytic and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and to manage multiple projects.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work with a variety of internal and
external departments.
• Ability to translate financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and nonfinance managers.
• Must be an organized, detailed oriented individual with a positive, friendly, and professional
demeanor.
• Must be flexible enough to manage changing priorities.
• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Demonstrated Microsoft Excel skills are necessary.
