Controller
Position Summary
The Controller is accountable for the company's accounting operations. This includes the production of timely and accurate financial reports, maintenance of accounting records, and oversight of controls and budgets designed to reduce risk and support sound decision-making. The Controller is responsible for improving the accuracy of the company’s financial results, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, and helping leadership better understand the business's financial health. This role will play an important part in supporting a growing trucking operation and building scalable financial processes as the company continues to expand.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day to day accounting functions of the company, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, debt, and cash management
- Prepare & review accurate monthly, quarterly, & annual financial statements & related reports
- Lead the month end and year end close process, including reconciliations, journal entries, and review of financial activity
- Develop, manage, and improve budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes in partnership with leadership
- Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to support accuracy, consistency, and compliance
- Monitor cash flow, oversee treasury activity, and support financing needs, including lender reporting and equipment financing
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax preparers, and other outside partners to support audits, tax filings, and financial compliance
- Provide financial insight, reporting, and process improvement recommendations to leadership to help improve profitability, efficiency, and support growth
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting or finance experience, with prior Controller or Assistant Controller experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, general ledger accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls
- Experience preparing monthly financial statements and managing the month end close process
- Working knowledge of GAAP and financial compliance requirements
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with leadership
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in trucking, transportation, logistics, or fleet-related accounting is a plus
- Experience with cash management, equipment financing,
- CPA or CMA is a plus, but not required
