About the Opportunity
Job Impulse, Inc., an international recruiting and staffing firm, is seeking an experienced Controller for one of our higher education partners. This role is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the institution, ensuring compliance with university policies, governmental regulations, and sound accounting practices. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, higher education financial management experience, and familiarity with Banner ERP systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting and financial reporting functions for the institution.

  • Ensure accuracy and compliance in financial statements in accordance with GAAP and higher education accounting standards.

  • Manage the general ledger, month-end and year-end closing processes, and financial reconciliations.

  • Supervise accounting staff and provide leadership, guidance, and professional development.

  • Coordinate and support annual audits and ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations.

  • Monitor and manage institutional budgets, financial forecasts, and cash flow.

  • Maintain and optimize financial systems, including Banner ERP.

  • Partner with university leadership to provide financial insights and strategic guidance.

  • Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard institutional assets.

  • Prepare financial reports and presentations for executive leadership and governing boards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s preferred).

  • 5–10+ years of progressive accounting/finance leadership experience, preferably within higher education or university environments.

  • Experience with Banner ERP system strongly preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and regulatory compliance in higher education.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing accounting or finance teams.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

  • CPA preferred but not required.
