Controller

Our client is a multi-generational family-owned manufacturer in Seattle. They are a stable and profitable business seeking a Controller to replace the tenured, retiring Controller. This role will report to the Owner and be the leading financial and accounting employee in the 25 employee company. They are requiring a candidate with at least 10 years of experience with full-cycle financial accounting.

Responsibilities:

Miscellaneous:

  • Read through shop union contract.
  • Read through employee handbook.
  • Manage periodic audits (Department of Revenue, Employment Security Department, Boilermaker’s Pension).
  • Process shop payroll weekly: calculate deductions for dues, L&I (shop rate, field rate, no deductions), Medical/AFLAC. Post payroll transactions.
  • Process office payroll bi-weekly.
  • File payroll tax returns quarterly (941, L&I, SUTA, FMLA, LT Cares Fund).
  • File city of Seattle B&O tax return quarterly.
  • Process Accounts Payable with check runs 4x monthly, reconcile payments to credit card statements.
  • Create the pension report monthly, upload to administrator and process payment.

Daily:

  • Review time slips to ensure all shop employees accounted for and hours total correctly.
  • Review job numbers for reasonableness, including excise tax exemptions.
  • Review accounts payables invoices to ensure they are: signed off by a buyer and the copy on job indicated where appropriate. Review invoice for sales tax, pay use tax if required and send exempt certificate if needed.
  • Review jobs to ensure they are signed off on, ensure their correct sales tax classification and randomly review contents and check totals.

Monthly

  • Reconcile G/L accounts to supporting systems/sources, including cash and sales.
  • File excise tax return.

Annually

  • Prepare a projection of net income for the year and bonus worksheet.
  • Prepare W-2’s.
  • Prepare draft compiled F/S, especially tax provision, and review with Owner.
  • Prepare insurance renewal applications.
