Controller
Our Family-owned apparel client is looking for a hands-on Controller to lead their team. The Controller will serve as the company’s senior finance and accounting leader, responsible for managing all day-to-day financial operations. This includes overseeing general ledger accounting, monthly closes, financial reporting, audits, payroll, and HR administration. The Controller will also play a key role in inventory management, payroll compliance, employee benefits administration, and cash flow oversight, ensuring the company has strong internal controls and accurate reporting to support continued growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of accounting, including AR, AP, payroll, HR, bank reconciliations, and general ledger management
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual closes with accurate and timely financial reporting
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, and forecasts; provide insights to ownership and leadership team
- Manage payroll processing and compliance, ensuring accurate and timely payments
- Oversee HR functions, including benefits administration, employee onboarding/offboarding, HR compliance, and maintaining employee records
- Maintain compliance with tax filings, audits, and financial regulations
- Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accuracy
- Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and credit compliance
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering accuracy, accountability, and development
- Partner with operations to monitor and control inventory, margins, and costing
- Support system upgrades and process improvements, including ERP/financial system enhancements
- Act as a strategic partner to ownership, providing financial insight to support decision-making
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred
- 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership at the Controller level
- Experience in manufacturing, distribution, apparel, or retail industries strongly preferred
- Solid understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and compliance
- Strong knowledge of inventory management, payroll, HR, and margin control
- Hands-on leadership style with ability to roll up sleeves while also managing a team
- Excellent communication skills and ability to partner directly with ownership and leadership teams
- Proficiency with accounting/ERP systems (experience with Exenta ERP is highly preferred), plus advanced Excel skills

- $140,000-155,000k
