Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Controller will manage all financial aspects of a transportation company with focus on Drayage services.
The Controller is responsible for managing all facets of financial and accounting reporting. Manages A/P, A/R, Finance, Billing and Payroll; understanding the reporting and properly allocating within the books to the appropriate general ledger accounts.) Overseeing the collections of past due invoices and ensuring that the DSO is reasonable and not stretching out; onboard new customers; ensure set up properly in the systems for their first invoices and we have the appropriate contacts in the system. Reports accurate & timely financials (I/S, B/S, Cash Flow) in accordance with GAAP. Formalizes and manages monthly close, ensuring all expenses and revenues are recognized accordingly, provide KPIs for the team and executives, prepares balance sheet reconciliations. Requires thorough financial analysis to be used in key decision making. Will leverage batch systems through real time systems including Quick Books and evolving ERP system to account for fixed asset reporting, cost accounting, business unit and location P&L’s (to eliminate spreadsheets), utilizes financial reporting tool to enable drill down of P&L. Works closely with the Director of Finance to create and maintain accounting policies and procedures, develop formal metrics and design processes to assist accounting and operating unit performance. Compassionate and strong leader for the team to be able to hire, train and or advance team members.

Background Required:
  • Accounting & Financial reporting Experience (5+ years)
  • Operational accounting (A/P, A/R, cash disbursements & receipts, Bank Accounts & Credit Cards)
  • Invoice processing
  • Prepaid Expenses, Inventory & Fixed Assets (valuation/amortization/reconciling)
  • Treasury (Long Term Debt & Equity)
  • Financial Statements (Month-end-close, income statements, tax preparation and payment)
  • Established standard operating procedures for financial reporting GAAP.
  • Interaction with operations management (KPI’s - business unit level P&L review)
  • Monthly analysis (leadership/management identifying trends/metrics allowing accurate decision making)
  • Cost reduction & containment programs
  • Computer literate: Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills
  • Education: BS or BA degree (i.e., Accounting, Finance)
  • Location: Memphis, TN
Background Preferred (but not required):
  • Transportation or Logistics experience
  • International Drayage knowledge
  • QuickBooks or Great Plains experience
