Controller

Summary

Reporting to the CFO, the Controller is a key member of the accounting leadership team, responsible for driving financial accuracy, operational excellence, and continuous improvement. This role leads a small but high-performing team while supporting company growth and a strong client-focused mission.

Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of accounting professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Ensure high standards of accuracy and timeliness while supporting internal teams and clients. Build and maintain effective relationships with external partners, including banks, auditors, and insurance providers.

Financial Reporting & Budgeting

  • Manage the monthly close process and prepare consolidated financial statements. Partner with leadership to develop the annual budget and track performance against goals. Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, tax compliance, and bank reconciliations. Monitor cash flow and provide financial insights to support decision-making.

Operational & Inventory Support (Lean Accounting)

  • Collaborate with operations to develop clear, actionable reporting related to inventory and product flow. Ensure accurate tracking and valuation of inventory while identifying opportunities to reduce waste and improve efficiency. Apply lean accounting principles to deliver meaningful insights that support business performance.

Process Improvement & Internal Controls

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, and workflows. Implement best practices to enhance efficiency and scalability. Establish and maintain strong internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets.

Qualifications

  • 4–8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership exposure
  • Experience in public accounting, manufacturing, or related industries preferred
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, and accounting operations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP systems (Epicor experience a plus)
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Hands-on, adaptable leader who can balance strategic priorities with day-to-day execution
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field required; CPA or advanced degree preferred
