Job Description

We are looking for a Controller to work for our client. The ideal candidate aligns with the responsibilities and qualifications outlined below.

Our client is a growing small business on the East Side of Columbus seeking a hands-on Controller to lead all accounting operations, strengthen financial processes, and serve as a strategic partner to ownership. Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including GL, AP/AR, cash management, and payroll oversight.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare financial statements, internal dashboards, and performance analyses for ownership and leadership.
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning with a focus on operational clarity.
  • Strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and documentation as the business scales.
  • Partner directly with business owners on strategic decisions, business planning, and growth initiatives.
  • Oversee external relationships including tax advisors, banks, auditors, and insurance providers.
  • Implement process improvements, system upgrades, and automation to increase efficiency.
  • Support job costing, inventory tracking, or project accounting as applicable to small-business needs.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and oversight to a small accounting/office support team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred but not required.
  • 7+ of progressive accounting experience, with prior Controller or Assistant Controller experience ideal.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, cash flow management, and small-business accounting practices.
  • Experience in environments where processes need building, standardizing, or modernizing.
  • Proficiency with accounting/ERP systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Dynamics, or similar).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate closely with owners and department leads.
