Overview

Career path to CFO! Hybrid schedule of 2 days in office. We are actively seeking a Controller for a Law Firm conveniently located near mass transit in Midtown NYC. Reporting to the CFO, manage a staff including Accounting Manager, billing and A/P staff. A foundation in public accounting experience preferred. 6+ years of progressive accounting experience ideal. CPA highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Gain a thorough understanding of the accounting department as part of succession planning to become the future CFO
  • Train side by side with the CFO, who has decades of experience at the firm and is nearing retirement
  • Assist with the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities.
  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of the firm's general ledger.
  • Accounting knowledge of accounting methods: cash and accruals.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and other accounts.
  • Partner with the CFO and external accounting firm to ensure accurate and timely filing of S-Corp income tax, property tax, and other tax filings
  • Ensure the integrity of accounting processes, systems, and data.
  • Adhere to accounting policies and procedures
  • Ensure accurate and timely reports are provided to stakeholders.
  • Participate in special projects.
  • Assist in preparing annual budget and forecasts.
  • Assist with the books and records of investment partnerships

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Accounting.
  • 5+ years’ accounting experience.
  • CPA highly desired
  • Law firm experience preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of journal entries, accounting principles, financial forecasts, and budgets.
  • Strong technical accounting skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, macros, etc.)
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
