Contract Accounting Opportunity – Cash & A/R Reconciliation

Overview:

Our client, a dynamic and fast-paced organization in Richmond, VA, is seeking an experienced accounting professional for a contract role focused on cash and accounts receivable (A/R) reconciliation. This role sits at the intersection of operations and accounting and requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a process improvement mindset.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Match incoming cash deposits to transactions recorded in internal systems and bank accounts.
  • Reconcile cash received in the bank to what is recorded in the billing system.
  • Perform full bank reconciliations and ensure accuracy of entries.
  • Reconcile A/R balances and investigate variances or discrepancies.
  • Analyze cash application processes and identify any cash that has not yet been posted in the system.
  • Work across two internal systems and multiple bank accounts to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Download and analyze data from systems and banks to support reconciliation and reporting.
  • Provide insights and recommendations for process improvements, including identifying inefficiencies and opportunities to streamline reconciliation workflows.
  • Collaborate closely with both the operations and accounting teams to ensure alignment and accuracy.
  • Investigate and provide insight into A/R aging issues — why balances are aging and what can be done to resolve it.

Ideal Background:

  • 3+ years of experience in accounting or financial operations with a focus on reconciliations.
  • Strong understanding of cash application, A/R, and general accounting principles.
  • Experience working across multiple systems and with high volumes of transactional data.
  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with data downloads and analysis.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and investigative skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and communicate effectively across departments.
  • Process improvement mindset – someone who can ask “why” and offer suggestions to improve current procedures.
