Our client is a top financial institution with significant North American holdings. They have operations across most major verticals, including institutional & corporate, wealth management, private client, commercial banking, treasury, and retail banking.

Position Overview

One of the key documents that requires updating is the Construction Safety Management Plan (CSMP). All work scopes satisfy the legislation under the Ontario OHSA (Occupational Health & Safety Act) and can be managed by company by implementing the CPG CSMP.

The CSMP, which was last reviewed in 2017, needs revision to update and future-proof the plan to achieve continuous improvement and align with the ISO 45001 standard. Some of these updates and associated work is underway in varying degrees. The candidate will be required to pick up this work and carry it to completion, with support from the Capital Projects Safety team and other internal stakeholders.

Given the level of importance of this document and the need to update it from a Safety risk perspective, capacity is needed to undertake this project.

What you will achieve in this role:

  • Building on work conducted to-date to update the CSMP; conduct an audit / current state gap analysis of the plan, including all documentation within, to identify gaps.
  • Update current documentation, templates and processes within the Plan to bring them to a high-level of quality. This includes the following:
  • Develop Constructor Decision Logic;
    • (ii) Add required templates (e.g., for Personal Protective Equipment, Beacon, Fit for Duty, Monthly Occupational Health & Safety Report, Construction Safety Work Plan, Project Kick-Off, and others as required or identified by the Vendor);
    • (iii) Update the Risk Assessment Model for Construction Safety;
    • (iv) Update and include a Site Visitor Permit;
    • (v) Align the Plan with updated language, verifying language with appropriate parties where required (e.g., verify language for follow up on corrective measures implemented by contractor’s postsafety incidents, align emergency planning to contract language, Verify Section S 2.0 Aligns with the Beacon Standard, and others as required or identified by the Vendor);
    • (vi) Cross-reference the documents in the Plan with existing documentation in the organization to ensure consistency in language and version control (e.g., update the Safety Incident Reporting process to include the latest, align the Site Specific safety Manual to align with contract, align language for RCAC process, and others as required or
      identified by the Vendor);
    • (vii) Establish the standard or an interim baseline Fencing layout to ensure approval language is clear;
    • (viii) Update Third Party Access guidance, in coordination with the ThirdParty team;
    • (ix) Working with legal, ensure all language us approved and aligns with the required legal contract language;

What you will bring to this role:

  • Previous experience in working with standards and processes, understanding the necessity for a company to hold accurate and current standards;
  • Ability to carry out a Safety System gap analysis and take a systematic approach to making updates;
  • Highly experienced in Construction Safety management;
  • Experience updating construction SMS documentation;
  • Detail-orientated in carrying out document reviews;
  • Strong written communication skills;
  • Deep understanding of Ontario construction OHS legislation and best practice;
  • Valid qualification in occupational health and safety;
  • 8+ years’ experience in Construction Safety Management

Hours of work: Resources are required to work Monday to Friday during normal office hours which are defined as a seven (7) hour and twenty-five (25) minute workday, with a one (1) hour unpaid lunch. Saturdays, Sundays and Statutory Holidays are off days.
Place of Work / Travel: Work will take place in the Greater Toronto Area; however, given the current pandemic environment candidates who can work EST hours remotely will be considered. The role may require some in-office meetings, following provincial social distancing and mask requirements.
