Construction Manager (Owner's Representative) — Columbus, OH — Confidential
Our client is a construction management agency RHA has partnered with — a Columbus-based owner's representative firm serving heavy industrial, water/wastewater, transportation, and utilities projects. This is a confidential search.
Compensation: $150,000 or more, depending on what you bring to the table. Full-time, direct hire.
Primary Functions
- Provide overall management on behalf of the Owner for large, complex projects and multiple small/medium projects: design, budget, and schedule conformance across water/wastewater facilities, transportation, and utilities.
- Manage inspection staff for quality control and accurate unit price verification; coordinate, train, and supervise company personnel on assigned projects.
- Prioritize multiple concurrent projects; participate in developing new business opportunities; may have direct reports.
Typical Duties
- Project setup, schedule, cost control/estimating, quality control, communications, change management, closeout, and safety.
- Develop relationships with clients, potential clients, subcontractors, and vendors; communicate project issues directly with the project team.
- Analyze and understand contract documents (plans, specifications, geotechnical reports); perform constructability reviews and value engineering.
- On-site project management of construction activities and review of progress against schedule; coordinate with management and engineering staff to develop solutions to field problems.
- Maintain official project log, documentation files, and as-built information; manage submittals, RFIs, pay applications, and change management.
- Coordinate field inspection teams and materials testing; conduct project close-out activities including punch list.
- Develop a high-performance team through supervision, training, coaching, and mentoring; establish and communicate the Master Project Schedule.
- Manage budget and financial reporting; run the Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) program; manage and oversee field operation and engineering processes.
- Initiate pay application process and follow up to ensure timely payment; keep management informed through regularly scheduled Operation Review Meetings.
Qualifications
- ACTIVE OHIO PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER (PE) LICENSE OR CERTIFIED CONSTRUCTION MANAGER (CCM) CERTIFICATION REQUIRED.
- 4 or more years' experience/knowledge of construction, design, and management required.
- 4-year engineering or construction management degree, or equivalent project management work experience accompanied by high school diploma/GED.
- Previous experience managing construction contracts on multiple projects, scheduling, and maintaining financial control of the project.
- Experience in Heavy Industrial, Water/Wastewater, and/or Utilities sectors highly preferred.
- Proficient with project scheduling software including P6 or MS Project; proficient reviewing cost and performing construction cost estimates; ability to read shop drawings.
- Flexibility to meet travel requirements for site visits.

- Organization, time management, and problem-solving skills with root cause analysis; ability to manage concurrent projects.
- Knowledge of the development project lifecycle (design, development, testing, implementation); experience in meeting planning, facilitation, and public speaking.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications; exposure to contractor payment processing requests.
