Clinical Veterinarian for Laboratory Animal Medicine

Join our dedicated team in Sacramento, CA, as a Clinical Veterinarian, where you will play a crucial role in the welfare and medical care of laboratory animals. This position is integral to our ongoing research projects, focusing on reproductive toxicology and supporting the conduct of biopharmaceutical studies in a dynamic, collaborative environment. Salary: $140,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide routine and specialized veterinary medical, dental, imaging, and surgical services.
  • Lead the care and resolution of complex medical cases and assist in the design and implementation of preventive medicine programs.
  • Develop, review, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for animal care.
  • Train and supervise staff on technical procedures and humane use of animals.
  • Maintain compliance with federal regulations regarding animal care and use.
  • Support the Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee in protocol reviews and managing animal colony issues.
  • Select animals for specific research needs based on deep knowledge of species and research techniques.
  • Perform after-hours emergency duties and share clinical rotation duties, including on-call weekends and holidays.
  • Provide guidance on animal model development and author scientific publications and conference contributions.
  • Undertake special projects and interest assignments tailored to specific research needs.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree.
  • Active veterinary license in at least one US state.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in veterinary medicine.
  • Willingness and ability to quickly learn and work with small primates.
  • Ability to obtain a California State License in Veterinary Medicine within one year of job start.
  • Graduates of non-AVMA accredited veterinary schools must have ECFVG certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • DACLAM certification or willingness to achieve this as part of professional development.
  • Experience in a research or laboratory animal facility, particularly with non-human primates.
  • Proven ability to lead and train veterinary and technical teams.
  • Strong commitment to animal welfare and compliance with ethical regulations.
