We are seeking a Claims Clerk (6 Month Term) to join our Coughlin team in Winnipeg, MB

The Claims Clerk is required to provide clerical support to claims assessors by logging mail, sending correspondence, ordering supplies, data and document maintenance, processing cheque stop payments, and other administrative tasks. In addition, the Claims Clerk will process group plan member dental and health claims by applying established policies and procedures, respond to written, electronic, or in-person inquires related to claims, benefits payable, and general group plan policies. The Claims Clerk will also act in a back-up capacity by assisting with the daily volume of telephone inquiries.

The Claims Clerk (6 Month Term) will:

  • Perform data entry related to claims and member correspondence.
  • Verify eligibility of members, drugs, services, providers, co-insurance, deductibles, payments, and procedure/dental codes, including reviewing previous submissions and group contracts/policies.
  • Verify cheques, letters, forms, addresses, and reports for accuracy and completion.
  • Produce claims payments, including applying applicable deductibles.
  • Interpret policies and administrative practices and correctly apply them in the adjudication of claims. Respond to clients, members, or other external contacts in a prompt, efficient, and courteous manner at all times.
  • Prepare correspondence using company standard templates for members, carriers, or clients.
  • Provide accurate and timely information/assistance to members and clients concerning coverage, processing and paying claims, and benefits parameters.
  • Inform the manager of any issues which arise out of the course of daily work.
  • Liaise with medical professionals.
  • Discuss with the senior team any difficulties in understanding or applying policies and any situation not covered by guidelines or precedents.
  • Restrict access to confidential information pertaining to the company and its stakeholders.
  • Train and/or provide guidance to new staff, as required.

To be successful as a Claims Clerk (6 Month Term) with Coughlin & Associates, you will need:

  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office and standard office administration procedures.
  • The demonstrated ability to learn and master new software and technology.
  • Excellent grammatical, spelling, and communication skills.
  • The ability to maintain good public relations, both within and outside the organization.
  • The ability to extract and interpret or simplify information from various technical sources.
  • Strong mathematical and organizational skills, the ability to prioritize and multi-task, and the ability to manage time effectively.
  • The ability to adhere to existing company policies and procedures.
  • The ability to use tact and discretion to maintain information in the strictest of confidence

All-star candidates will have:

  • Experience processing electronic claims.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • A positive attitude and strong team player who works well with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Bilingualism in both official languages would be considered an asset.
