Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the President of a regional transportation provider.

The Chief Operating Officer is responsible for the day-to-day operations of 5 transportation divisions including fleet management, load planning, and customer service and collaborates with safety, maintenance, and driver recruitment. Management of 5 direct reports; fleet management, load planning, and customer service with 30 associates, 600 company drivers. Coordinates operations with sales, safety, driver recruiting, information technology, finance & accounting. Plans freight and directs route planning to prevent deadheading across all 4 divisions. Understands driver recruitment and retention, understanding needs of drivers. Participates in development of the overall strategic direction. Focus is to continue to provide the operations leadership to continue to grow and sustain the organization as one of the best in the industry. Definition of best is (1) safest; (2) most profitable and (3) best place to work. Challenge is to maximize profitability through increasing utilization and optimizing costs. Manages business to meet or surpass all budgets and business plans, supporting P&L. Creates operational and sales forecasts and budgets. Engages in continuous improvement of business processes in partnership with team members and management.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (i.e. Supply Chain, Logistics or Transportation)
  • Residence: St. Louis, MO (relocation assistance)
Background Preferred (but not required):
  • Experience growing a carrier into larger entity (sales growth, target market penetration, account management)
  • Maintenance acumen
