Chief Nursing Officer / CNO
Job Description
Our client, a 36 bed healthcare facility near Ft Wayne, IN, has a need for a CNO to join their team. You will oversee 4 House Sups, 2 on days and 2 on nights, and about 75 FTEs. A MINIMUM of 2 years of management experience in an Inpatient setting REQUIRED.
Under the general supervision of the hospital CEO and Senior Vice President, Clinical Operations, the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is responsible for organizing and administering the Department of Clinical Services at the hospital and implementing standards of care, policies, programs, and procedures as established by the company. Responsibilities of the CNO include ensuring timely, accurate, and complete documentation, ensuring all clinical regulatory requirements are being met, and responsibility for employee engagement, recruitment and retention.
QUALIFICATIONS
- BSN required. MSN or equivalent Masters in Healthcare or enrollment in a Master's program required. Exceptions approved by SVP, Clinical Operations.
- Three to Five years of hospital nursing experience required. MINIMUM of 2 years of management experience in an Inpatient setting REQUIRED
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse required
- BLS required
- ACLS required within 6 months of hire
JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provides leadership, support and participation in Hospital QAPI meetings
- Maintains safe environment through strict enforcement of all Infection Control policies and monitoring of effective and safe housekeeping practices
- Implements Select standards related to staffing and HPPD. Utilizes staffing acuity calculator to assure safe staffing levels are in place.
- Implements and monitors bedside report and hand-off communication standards
- Implements and monitors wound program initiatives
- Implements and monitors fall reduction initiatives
- Monitor mobility program compliance and implement initiatives as deemed necessary
- Monitor rapid response team program
- Review quality dashboard and implement action plans as deemed necessary
- Implements core curriculum and competency validation through Select University
- Implements Clinical Advancement Program and other core programs.
- Meets Corporate and regulatory requirements for documentation.
- Implements significant corporate clinical initiatives: VAP and CVC line bundles, NPSG’s, hourly rounding, shift huddle, Delirium screen, Sepsis screen, skin care bundle, fall reduction bundle and others as directed by Corporate DCQS.
- Follows and administers HR policies. Consults with HRC and HRD as needed. Attention given to: Attendance policy. Professional appearance policy. Progressive discipline policy. Positive work environment policies and practices. Suspected drug diversion guideline.
- Cooperates in the formulation of policies and practices established by the Hospital Administrator/CEO. Defines and interprets these to the Department of Clinical Services.
- Plans with Medical Staff and Department heads for coordination of services and activities.
- Meets with all new patients in timely way.
- Conducts daily clinical rounds on all patients (CNO with large hospital is to round on 1 floor/unit per day, with all patients seen by weeks end)
- Assures monthly presence on nightshift
- Conducts monthly staff meetings that are accessible to all shifts
- Enforces grievance policy.
- Focuses on responsibilities for employee engagement.
- Develops charge nurses into a clinically and administratively effective team.
- Develops a solid working relationship with the CEO, DBD, DOP, DQM, and HRC
- Uses Clinical Observation tool biannually for all clinical employees to provide ongoing assessment and feedback of performance.
- Focuses on Controlling costs: purchasing and rental agreements, bed algorithm, wound formulary.
- Keeps the Hospital Administrator/CEO informed of plans, equipment, systems, policies and procedures.
- Meets CMS and JCAHO requirements.
- Develops a working relationship with professional organizations and groups and acts in leadership capacities.
- Represents the hospital to professional community groups and actively participates within and outside the hospital to promote its reputation, educational, and research activities related to the quality of services.
