About the Opportunity
Our client, a rapidly scaling life insurance start-up launching in New York City, seeks a visionary Chief Life Actuary to lead its actuarial strategy and risk management functions. This is a unique opportunity to join the founding leadership team of an innovative insurer and architect the actuarial foundation from inception.
Core Responsibilities
- Strategic Actuarial Leadership: Define and execute a forward-looking actuarial roadmap aligned with the company’s financial and growth goals.
- Product Development & Pricing: Lead the design, pricing, and valuation of life insurance products to ensure market competitiveness and profitability.
- Risk & Capital Management: Oversee solvency analysis, risk modeling, and capital adequacy to support financial resilience and regulatory alignment.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure full compliance with U.S. and Puerto Rico insurance regulations, including IFRS 17 and other actuarial standards.
- Analytics & Innovation: Apply advanced analytics and predictive modeling to support underwriting, claims, investment strategies, and performance optimization.
- Executive Engagement: Collaborate closely with the CEO, CFO, and Board to guide strategic decision-making and sustainable growth.
- Team Building: Recruit, mentor, and lead a best-in-class actuarial team that embraces innovation and continuous improvement.
Ideal Candidate
- Credentialed Actuary: FSA, MAAA, or an equivalent international designation.
- Life Insurance Domain Expertise: Proven experience across actuarial disciplines including pricing, reserving, risk management, and product innovation.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding solvency frameworks, valuation principles, and insurance compliance requirements deeply.
- Analytical Acumen: Skilled in actuarial and statistical tools such as Prophet, AXIS, R, Python, and modern modeling platforms.
- Strategic Mindset: Able to translate complex actuarial data into impactful business strategy.
- Start-Up Agility: Entrepreneurial, adaptable, and energized by the pace and opportunity of building from the ground up.
