Community HealthCare System (CHCS), located in Onaga, Kansas, has an outstanding opportunity for a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

CHCS is a first-class, nonprofit health care system with a longstanding tradition of providing compassionate, high-quality care to the rural communities of northeast Kansas. CHCS employees more than 450 associates at seven locations serving a large service area and has net patient revenues of greater than $33M.

In 2015, the CHCS hospital building was replaced by a $20 million state-of-the-art hospital with new surgical suites, in-house MRI, an expanded emergency department, private patient rooms, a new clinic, and a new birth center.

CHCS has added two additional locations, taking health and wellness services to the communities of Corning and Westmoreland. The health system covers a four-county area. Family practice is the core of their care and is complemented by a full array of hospital outpatient services. CHCS employs more than 25 providers. It is an award-winning health care system and an economic contributor for a number of communities in northeastern Kansas.

The CEO reports to the seven-member CHCS Board of Trustees and is responsible for general management and supervision of all aspects of the organization, including operations, financial, and service line development.

CHCS is seeking an energetic, strategic and visionary leader to guide CHCS through the complex issues currently facing healthcare organizations. The CEO will demonstrate excellent communication and relationship skills and have the ability to work with a diverse group of people, including the board, staff, physicians, donors, community partners and patients. We seek individuals that will foster a culture of collaboration, be approachable, thoughtful, ethical and possess the business acumen to maintain and enhance the organization’s financial viability.

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required and a master’s degree in hospital administration or related field, as well as FACHE-designation, is preferred.
  • Experience in Critical Access Hospital designation is strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of three years senior leadership experience is required, and previous CEO experience preferred (but not required).
  • Candidates should have demonstrated leadership accomplishments in the overall improvement of strategic, financial and operational performance of an organization.
  • Must present with excellent communication and listening skills.
  • The ability to build and maintain credibility with key constituents/stakeholders within the organization and the community.
  • Adept at developing and executing a plan that links strategy and finance.
  • Broad understanding of health care issues, including reimbursement trends.
  • Be cognizant of medical staff and caregivers’ perspectives.
  • Prefer prior physician recruitment and integration experience, including contract negotiation.
  • A history of community involvement.
