CHIEF ESTIMATOR - ELECTRICAL DIVISION
Job Overview:
This role focuses on delivering financial projections and cost estimates to secure profitable electrical construction or design projects through successful bids. The individual in this position manages the estimating operations for the electrical division, determining which projects to pursue. They supervise the creation of detailed cost projections for electrical initiatives across various industries. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities are essential for collaborating effectively with company departments, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.

Supervises: Electrical Division Estimating Team
Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Direct estimating efforts and project pursuits, choosing which opportunities to bid on. Possess a deep understanding of the company’s profit margins and overhead costs. Conduct bid presentations and meetings with clients and key stakeholders as required.
  • Pinpoint potential project risks and anticipate challenges, proactively developing backup plans. Leverage extensive expertise and sound judgment to devise cost-efficient solutions.
  • Oversee and guide the estimating team, ensuring adequate staffing and fostering team members’ growth through coaching and development. Encourage internal promotions to strengthen the organization. Support staff advancement via training, regular communication, mentoring, and meetings. Set high standards for quality and hold the team accountable.
  • Produce precise, well-structured cost estimates from provided materials in a timely fashion. Obtain competitive bids from vendors and subcontractors. Provide thorough quantity take-offs and finalize estimates that reflect all project costs and conditions. Collaborate with leadership to set pricing that ensures successful bids. Maintain the bidding timeline and meet all deadlines.
  • Track market trends and material pricing to keep bids competitive.
  • Work closely with colleagues to achieve objectives, and lead project hand-off discussions with the team to share cost details, plans, and project specifics.
  • Refine estimating processes and establish best practices. Explore creative methods and introduce fresh ideas to boost job quality, efficiency, and profitability.
  • Build and sustain a strong network of industry contacts. Engage actively in client, industry, and community activities to elevate the company’s reputation.
  • Champion workplace safety and encourage safe practices in all operations.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by leadership.

Desired Qualifications & Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years in estimating leadership, including at least 5 years focused on electrical construction projects.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a similar discipline is preferred, though equivalent professional experience is acceptable.
  • Demonstrated success in winning bids and securing projects valued at $10 million or higher.
  • Advanced skills in estimating tools and software, with McCormick experience being advantageous.
  • Competence in reading blueprints, technical documents, and interpreting complex project requirements from bid packages.
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes and standards.
  • Skill in sequencing construction tasks logically and estimating costs for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services for entire projects.
  • Exceptional analytical and numerical abilities, paired with keen attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working effectively with teams and clients.
  • Ability to think creatively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $130,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year (More DOE)
