Title - Chief Estimator – Construction Projects
Work Model – On-site – Monday – Friday; 8-4:30pm
Location – NCR – Office in Carp, ON
Salary - $110-$165k

We're currently seeking an experienced Chief Estimator with a solid background in both estimating and project management within the construction sector. This leadership role is ideal for someone with a degree in engineering or construction management, or an equivalent combination of education and 10+ years of relevant experience.
Key Qualifications:
- Proven leadership and mentoring capabilities in a construction estimating environment.
- Proficient analytical skills with the ability to critically assess project risks and pricing strategies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; bilingual (French/English) candidates are preferred.
- Ability to obtain – or currently hold – Top Secret security clearance (PWGSC minimum).
Core Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Management:
- Oversee and develop a high-performing estimating team.
- Assign workloads, provide ongoing coaching and training.
- Coordinate team activities including weekly meetings and resource planning.
- Analyze departmental data through tools like PowerBI to guide decisions on bids and client targeting.
Estimating & Project Support:
- Lead the preparation of detailed cost estimates, budgets, and scopes of work for mid to large-scale construction projects.
- Ensure accuracy in labour, materials, and subcontractor pricing.
- Maintain and build strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing.
- Participate directly in estimating tasks during high-volume periods.
Process & Quality Oversight:
- Establish and refine standardized estimating practices and tools (Excel templates, estimating software).
- Identify gaps in subtrade bids and ensure completeness in tender submissions, including controls, commissioning, testing, and third-party engineering.
- Collaborate with other departments to continuously improve estimating accuracy and bid competitiveness.
Client Relations & Business Development:
- Lead or contribute to prequalification submissions for major clients (e.g., OCDSB, DFATD, OCSB).
- Represent the company at industry events and maintain insight into market trends and competitors.
- Act as a brand ambassador, building and strengthening client relationships.
Technical Expertise:
- Solid understanding of construction techniques and estimating methods across key trades, especially drywall, concrete, and carpentry.
- Familiarity with estimating software (OST, Quick Bid) and the ability to assess and improve digital estimating tools.
