Our client is seeking a successful Chemistry Laboratory Technical Specialist to assist in taking a great unit to new heights of patient care.

Summary:
A Technical Specialist coordinates functions and activities of the assigned technical area throughout the laboratory system. Reports results, develops and monitors quality control and test procedures, oversees proficiency testing, quality improvement and equipment and shares in the routine work of the assigned area. Meets regulatory requirements (NYSDOH, JCAHO) for the assigned technical area(s). Performs tests requiring special scientific skill. Correlates knowledge and understanding of theory and technical elements of testing to solve problems and answers questions effectively and efficiently. Works with other laboratory staff to provide a smooth operating and efficient Clinical Laboratory Department, to enhance the quality of patient care. The Technical Specialist also performs the duties of a Clinical Laboratory Technologist (see below).
A Clinical Laboratory Technologist (CLT) performs clinical laboratory procedures and examinations and any other tests or procedures conducted by a clinical laboratory, including maintaining equipment and records, and performing quality assurance activities related to examination performance, and which require the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility, as determined by the department. Clinical laboratory technology means the performance of microbiological, virological, serological, chemical, immunohematological, hematological, biophysical, cytogenetical, cytological or histological procedures and examinations and any other test or procedure conducted by a laboratory as defined by title five of article five of the public health law, on material derived from the human body which provides information for the diagnosis, prevention or treatment of a disease or assessment of a human medical condition. Blood banking would include the collection, processing, storage and/or distribution of human blood, blood components or blood derivatives.
Education/Qualifications:
- Candidate must be qualified as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in accordance with New York State Department of Health regulations.
Experience:
- Experience in standard laboratory methodologies required.
- Previous Clinical Laboratory experience preferred.
Licensure/Certificates:
- Licensure by NYS SED as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist required, or licensure-eligible with a limited permit or limited license as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
- Limited Permit is granted to individuals that meet the educational requirements for licensure except for the licensing examination which must be taken within one year from the issuance of a limited permit.
