Chemical Operator

This is a Direct Hire 40 hour position paying $40,000 - 50,000 per year with full benefit, and 401K profit sharing match. Salary is commensurate with experience. This position is located in the Greater Bridgeton, New Jersey area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Learning and Development:

    • Display a positive attitude toward learning about rotating machinery, such as compressors, pumps, motors, and motor drives.
    • Understand and operate instruments, including pressure, flow, and level transmitters, temperature and pressure gauges, and control valves.
    • Learn to trace and set up piping and fittings related to chemical operations.
    • Acquire knowledge of unit operations involved in the distillation and reclamation process.
    • Develop proficiency in operating the control board and applying unit operation principles.
  • Operational Duties:

    • Sample and test feed, reflux, product, oil, and other tanks.
    • Collect and log process data such as temperature, pressure, flow, and level.
    • Maintain detailed records of operational performance and any adjustments made.
    • Ensure unit operations are conducted safely and in compliance with environmental standards.
    • Set up equipment and transfer products between various storage locations, including railcars, tanks, and containers.
    • Operate vacuum pumps, vapor and liquid pumps, and compressors under supervision, following standard operating procedures.
    • Learn to operate and maintain boiler and chiller equipment, aiming to pass the boiler examination within one year.
    • Operate a forklift according to standard procedures.
    • Perform routine visual inspections of distillation tanks and auxiliary systems, documenting findings.
    • Operate the control board to monitor and enhance unit operations.
    • Participate in general housekeeping and exterior maintenance as needed.
  • Program Expectations:

    • Expect to transition to a full distillation operator role after three years of training.
    • Pass routine tests to remain in the apprenticeship program.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Technical Competence:

    • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating manuals, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Competency in writing routine reports.
    • Mathematical proficiency in calculations involving discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, and basic algebra.
  • Problem-Solving:

    • Apply common sense to execute written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions.
    • Resolve problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands

The physical demands for this role include regular standing, using hands for handling or feeling, reaching, and smelling. Frequent walking, climbing, or balancing is required. The role also involves regularly lifting or moving objects up to 100 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment

The work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts and hazardous materials, such as compressed gases. Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
