Job Description

Make a Difference: High-Acuity Charge Nurse Leadership

Charge Nurse Interim Contractor with Conversion Opportunity
Minneapolis, Minnesota

For Nurses Who Rise to the Challenge

Some nurses prefer predictable, low-acuity environments. Others thrive when the clinical complexity is high, the stakes matter, and their leadership directly shapes patient outcomes and team performance.

If you're a confident, clinically strong RN who excels in high-acuity settings and wants to make a meaningful difference during a critical improvement phase, this interim Charge Nurse opportunity deserves your attention.

A skilled nursing facility in Minneapolis is seeking an experienced Charge Nurse to provide strong clinical leadership for a specialized 40-bed unit serving residents with complex medical needs. This is a contractor role with the opportunity to convert to permanent full-time employment for the right candidate.

What Makes This Role Compelling

True Clinical Complexity
This community is known for its ability to provide care for high-acuity residents—the kind of clinical challenges that keep your skills sharp and your days engaging. Residents on this unit may have complex needs including:

  • Tube feedings and NG tubes
  • Ostomy care
  • Wound vac management
  • IV antibiotic administration
  • Post-fracture rehabilitation (in-house therapy)
  • Multiple comorbidities requiring skilled clinical oversight

The community also provides in-house dialysis services (on a separate unit), reflecting their commitment to serving medically complex populations.

Leadership-Focused Role
This Charge Nurse position is primarily focused on unit leadership and oversight, not direct bedside care. You'll spend your time supervising nursing staff, managing physician orders, overseeing care plans, and ensuring quality care delivery. While you may occasionally assist with starting an IV or helping with a treatment, your primary responsibility is leading the nursing team effectively.

Opportunity to Drive Improvement
The community is actively preparing for regulatory survey with intensive mock survey preparation underway. You'll join during a critical period where strong nursing leadership can make a real difference in clinical outcomes, compliance readiness, and team performance. This is a chance to be part of meaningful improvement efforts.

Competitive Contractor Pay with Conversion Potential
Earn $45-50 per hour (depending on experience) as a contractor on the community's payroll, with the opportunity to transition to a permanent full-time position. This structure allows both you and the organization to ensure the right long-term fit.

Manageable Commitment with Flexibility
Minimum 4-week commitment required, with opportunity to extend or convert to permanent employment based on mutual interest and performance.
