Certified Flavor Chemist (Dairy Experience)
Job Description
Our client is a manufacturer of flavors and ingredients used by food and beverage manufacturers. We are looking to hire a Certified Flavor Chemist who will be responsible for flavor development, food formulation, product evaluation, validation, and new food application development. Applicants must possess a membership in the Society of Flavor Chemists, with certification or active pursuit of certification as a priority. This position is eligible for relocation assistance.
Job Overview:
Develop, revise, and optimize flavors for both dairy and non-dairy applications, working closely with internal teams and external customers to deliver innovative flavor solutions tailored to their products.
Key Responsibilities:
• Expertise in flavor raw materials, natural ingredients, flavor chemistry, sensory perception, and flavor technology to craft and modify flavors for dairy and non-dairy products.
• Proficiency with lab and pilot plant equipment to lead technical projects and collaborate with manufacturing teams to scale up flavor production.
• In-depth knowledge of FDA, USDA, FEMA, GRAS, CFR, and USDA guidelines, ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Drive innovation with a curious, action-oriented mindset, constantly exploring new ideas.
• Thorough understanding of flavor production processes including liquid blending, pastes, emulsions, and spray drying.
• Create finished product formulations utilizing proprietary technologies, meeting industrial, regulatory, and client-specific requirements in terms of profile, legality, cost, and stability.
• Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, and Application Specialists to develop customized presentations for key clients.
• Build and maintain strong customer relationships through cross-functional teamwork with Sales, Marketing, and Applications.
• Actively promote and commercialize innovative ideas, demonstrating feasibility and contributing to product success.
• Apply strong technical expertise and critical thinking to manage complex projects and balance multiple priorities and timelines.
• Proficiency in GC/MS and other analytical testing for flavor and ingredient formulations.
• Self-motivated, with a continuous learning approach.
• Stay current with emerging flavor development trends and processing techniques.
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Food Technology, Chemistry, or a related applied science.
• At least 8 years of experience in flavor creation, preferably within the dairy industry.
• Minimum 5 years of experience working in food or flavor companies, with knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
• Membership in the Society of Flavor Chemists is required, with certification or active pursuit of certification as a priority.
• Experience with innovation in product development is a plus.
• Expertise in flavor formulation, including the ability to taste, evaluate, and translate sensory experiences into technical terminology.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Team-oriented, curious, and committed to sharing information and collaborating with others.
