Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the VP, Operations of a premier 3PL that specializes non asset transportation.
Provide strategic direction and develop supporting processes regarding all truckload carrier relations, carrier relations support services, development of the carrier merit programs and carrier rate negotiations. Lead/support direct negotiations with carriers on rates, capacity needs, lanes, service, partnerships. Lead/support direct negotiations with carriers on dedicated capacity, empty lanes, growth targets. Create and implement standard processes throughout the freight brokerage and with the support of IT, maximize the use of automation and technology in providing carrier data to support decision making. Will travel in support of role to transportation partners to understand and create a value proposition to partner. Will work in conjunction with Sales Leadership and Pricing to allow customers a seamless experience. Ensure disciplines are in place for the proper measurement of carrier performance in accordance with Company’s corporate expectations. Set and obtain all targeted annual cost reduction goals and margin attainment goals.

Background Required:
  • Progressively responsibility in Carrier Capacity Development (5+ years)
  • Use and development of data to enable strategic Carrier Partnerships and margin attainment goals.
  • Develop & manage external and internal KPI’s (ie capacity development, on time performance, etc.)
  • Carrier Capacity Development, Carrier qualification and “set up” (ie. Truckload, Bulk)
  • Rate, Margin and service negotiation (pricing; multi modal, freight pay bill & audit oversight)
  • Support new business development (RFQ, RFI, Bid Proposal Response)
  • Management (hire, coach, train, teach, mentor staff)
  • Establish and Implemented SOP’s to improve operating efficiency
  • Develop & educate and train staff on relevant carrier, operational and market issues i.e. (capacity, regulations, trends)
  • Computer Skills (Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Travel: Up to 35%

  • Education: College Graduate-BA or BS
Background Preferred (but not required):
  • 3rd Party Logistics & Brokerage & Managed Transportation environment
  • Advanced degree: MBA
