CNC Shift Lead will Set, operate and programme CNC Machines and manufacture product to required specification in an efficient manner and co-ordinate between Team Leads, Quality Dept, Shifts and Co-workers.

Job Objectives

  1. To support the setting and operating of CNC Machines – which may include multi machine depending on cell structure
  2. Confirm job card operations are complete according to QMS and MOS requirements
  3. Communicate all productivity issues and constraints to the Production Team Lead
  4. Complete required operations in accordance to Production schedules
  5. Ensure all operations are correctly recorded through EFACS to manage productivity
  6. Assess risks associated with activities to make sure they are safe and compliant

Essential Responsibilities

  • Coordinate shop activities to achieve the manufacturing schedules issued by Production Control and in liaison with the Production Manager.
  • Train operators in various manufacturing processes and good working practices.
  • Support and report on day to day HR issues within the Production Floor, report on productivity, attendance, attitude, misbehaviour and actions of co-workers, machine or machining problems and any relevant issues on shift. Whilst also generating and maintaining high morale, maintaining and controlling attendance, discipline, good employee relations and communications.
  • To lead and continuously improve the work of the Production/Machine Shop, ensuring compliance with Quality standards.
  • In conjunction with engineering/planning, review and re-plan existing work to achieve cost reductions and better utilisation of cutting times, machine use, set up times, tooling, etc.
  • Undertake daily checks and maintain the machines/equipment in good working order, support 1st Level maintenance process and ensure checks being completed and actioned accordingly.
  • To liaise with other internal departments i.e. Stores, Engineering, Production Control, etc. in an effort to expedite work.
  • To put into place action plans to correct any areas where targets are not being met.
  • In the case of machinery and equipment failures, document these and communicate to the appropriate function, agreeing the necessary actions to restore production quickly.
  • To be responsible for the smooth introduction of new products and processes.
  • Work in a safe manner in compliance with company Health & Safety policy. Report and log Health & Safety incidents that occur.
  • Actively support and contribute to the continuous improvement programme and lean manufacturing. Also continually reviewing working practices to remove and reduce waste and non-value adding activities.
  • Maintain good housekeeping in the work area.
  • Carry other duties commensurate with the position as Shift Lead/Production Supervisor.

Position Requirements

Experience:

Ideally, the job holder should posses the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • A basic level of education.
  • To have undergone a time served apprenticeship in an engineering discipline.
  • A minimum of 4 years of aerospace or suitable engineering experience.
  • To use SAP to access and print off relevant documents.
  • Extensive knowledge of aircraft parts, specifications and standards.

Key Competencies:

  • Demonstrated experience in CNC Machining and understanding
  • Aptitude for leading by example and for developing key relationships with key workers.

Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for this role:

  • Understanding of Work instructions
  • Productivity maintained alongside cycle times recorded and standard hours measurement
  • Quality measures adhered to with scrap/NCR measures recorded
  • Accurate recording of all operations preserving job card integrity
