Key responsibilities:
- Interpreting Solidworks drawings and models. Reading and understanding engineering drawings to translate them for the CNC router.
- Creating CNC programs in MasterCam: Define the cutting paths, speeds, feed rates, and tool changes needed to manufacture the desired part.
- Tool selection: Choosing the appropriate cutting tools based on material type, desired finish, and machining parameters.
- Creating CNC programs: Setting up the CNC router with the correct tooling, workholding, and material to ensure accurate cutting.
- Simulation and testing: Running simulations of the CNC program to identify potential errors before machining on the actual machine.
- Quality control: Inspecting finished parts to verify accuracy and adherence to specifications.
- Troubleshooting: Identifying and resolving issues that may arise during machining, such as tool breakage or incorrect cuts.
- Maintaining tooling database: Keeping track of available cutting tools and their specifications
Required skills:
- CNC programming knowledge: Proficiency in the CNC programming language specific to the router machine
- CAD/CAM software MasterCam: Ability to use computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided
- manufacturing (CAM) software to create and edit 3D models and generate CNC programs
- Mechanical aptitude: Understanding of machining principles, cutting tool geometry, and material properties
- Attention to detail: Ensuring precision and accuracy in all aspects of the programming process
- Problem-solving skills: Identifying and resolving issues that may arise during machining
