Position Summary

Magellan Aerospace, Greyabbey has an exciting opportunity for numerous CNC Machinists to join our Production Team!

  • Full time Permanent Contracts
  • Rotating shift patterns as per current contractual agreement
  • Job location: Greyabbey, County Down BT22 2QE
  • Unionised site – works in partnership with Unite the Union.

A fully skilled CNC machinist will be responsible for the operation of CNC machines to produce aircraft component parts to customer specification in an efficient, effective and safe manner. These positions are primarily intended to support Siemens 840 controller work centres however the opportunity remains for future deployment to any work centre.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Managing the life cycle of the machining process and any other tooling and apparatus used
  • Loading and setting of the machine table
  • Demonstrating the ability to set datum's and tool setting
  • Loading new programs into the machine via seiki system
  • Demonstrating an understanding of editing programs to make minor alterations to programs via seiki or on machine.
  • Making any amendments and altering offsets correctly
  • Strong knowledge of the programming system and the ability to pick points to re-run the program
  • Demonstrate ability to train others - leadership and mentoring
  • Demonstrate productivity through returned hours cell efficiency
  • Knowing when and how to replace the rubber on the vacuum fixtures
  • Able to understand sheet-up sheets and engineering drawings.
  • Check the calibration of gauges and other equipment are in calibration – becoming stamp authorised by Quality.
  • Checking the integrity of job cards and the SOP has been followed and stamped off correctly
  • Completing 1st level maintenance (coolant level, oil levels, preventive maintenance) and fixing minor alarms on the machines
  • Contribute to a safe working environment for all staff on shift, ensuring PPE maintained - escalating and reporting any H&S concerns
  • Any other duties as assigned by management, shift lead, team lead and production supervisor.

Position Requirements


  • Good general education
  • A formal apprenticeship is desirable but not essential, or equivalent job related experience
