CNC Machinist - Lathe Specialist
This position involves operating CNC lathe machines to produce precision parts by following specific sets of instructions, diagrams, or precise measurements. The CNC Machinist will be responsible for setting up the machine, performing first-article inspections, and possibly training new machinists. This role also involves quality control, maintaining machinery, and effective teamwork to ensure production schedules and quality standards are met. A strong candidate will have experience in CNC turning, the ability to resolve maintenance and quality problems, and use measuring tools effectively for production verification.
Salary: $35.00 per hour
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform machine setups for CNC lathe production runs and ensure each machine is operating according to specifications.
- Conduct first-article inspections to confirm that manufactured items meet precise specifications.
- Perform routine and as-needed maintenance on machinery to ensure uninterrupted operation.
- Assist in mentoring and training other machinists, fostering a collaborative team environment.
- Monitor production to ensure priorities are met while maintaining a high standard of quality.
- Report any quality or production issues to management promptly.
- Utilize various measurement tools such as microscopes, calipers, micrometers, and optical comparators for quality control.
- Ensure all associated paperwork is complete, accurate, and submitted timely.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent relevant experience.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience operating CNC machines in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in reading and understanding technical documents and blueprints.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks with minimal supervision.
- Strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Effective problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience specifically with CNC lathe machines.
- Knowledge of MasterCam software.
- Experience training or leading other machinists.
- History of suggesting practical improvements for production efficiency and quality.
Skills:
- Advanced knowledge of CNC setup and operation.
- Skilled in using inspection tools and reading detailed specifications.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for both mechanical and quality issues.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate issues and improvements.
