Clinical Lab Scientist CLS CLT II Med Tech

This hospital offers a level II emergency department, orthopedic care, advanced cardiac services, peripheral artery disease treatment and OB/GYN services in a caring and conducive environment.

Job description/Responsibilities:


Each individual performs only those waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by CLIA, and require a degree of skill commensurate with individuals education, training or experience and technical abilities. Each individual performing the above procedures must:

  • Follow the laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results,
  • Maintain records that demonstrate the proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples,
  • Adhere to the laboratorys quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrumental and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed,
  • Follow the laboratory established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within laboratory established acceptable levels of performance,
  • Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance on reporting of test results and either must correct the problem or immediately notify the technical consultant, clinical consultant, or director,
  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratorys established performance specifications,
  • Perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgement and using both manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and Employee Health including employee drug screens and any other discipline as introduced into the laboratory environment,
  • Perform first-line troubleshooting procedures as well as complicated and less frequently performed procedures,
  • Maintain quality control and assists in checking work accuracy before it is reported out and able to recognize differences in expected results for newborns to geriatrics,
  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed instruments and equipment as appropriate,
  • Performs calibration of equipment as required,
  • Demonstrate an ongoing awareness of the critical nature and essential high standards of quality required in the laboratory,
  • Set appropriate examples in the achievement of these high standards,
  • Work in a variety of situations,
  • May work alone or in various groups on any shift on any day of the week under direct supervision of the Laboratory Director,
  • Effectively operate laboratory equipment, unassisted,
  • May be required to perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups from newborn to geriatrics and,
  • Move and maneuver throughout the lab without assistance,
  • Is responsible for supervising the daily operation of the department as Department Section Head/ General Supervisor,
  • Will provide consultative services to the medical staff, and participate in any performance improvement monitoring system for lab and hospital,
  • Will assist in maintenance and development of the laboratory computer system. Special projects or other assignments may be given with expectations to be completed in a specified timeframe.


Required Qualification:

 

  • License for Clinical Laboratory Scientist in the State of
    Kansas or eligible.
  • Minimum 3 - 5 year clinical laboratory supervisory experience
    preferred.
