Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the VP Marketing & Communications for an asset-based logistics organization focused on courier final mile, ground delivery, expedited freight, and over the road transportation. Their focus is helping companies accelerate e-commerce delivery along with freight transportation. With $ 50 million in revenue, the company has 200 trucks (80 class 8, 120 straight trucks), 360 drivers and 20 trailers operating from 15 locations in WA, ID, UT, CA, AZ, NV, and TX.

The CDL School Instructor provides leadership and strategy to grow 3 CDL-A training schools training 18 drivers per month. Recruits, mentors, and develops driver trainers. Leads a team of 6 associates. Goal is to ensure each school remains within compliance. Instruction on the parts and functions of commercial vehicles, and on-road regulations. 4-week class, 160 hours, 6 drivers per class. Teaches practical skills related to all aspects of commercial driving. Helps students to develop confidence in their driving skills, and model composure. Documents and report students' ongoing performance and progress. Inspection of company vehicle before and after class to ensure the good condition and operation of the vehicle. Knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations. Upholds and reinforce safety standards and best practices. Keeps licenses and certifications up to date as relates to job duties (I.e., Driver's license, DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate). Adapting to students' needs and learning styles.

Background Required:
  • Directed CDL Class-A school (2 years)
  • Valid CDL Class A required
  • Knowledge / familiar with Smith System Safe Driving Training
  • Familiar with box trucks, straight trucks, flatbeds, and/or other large vehicles
  • Clean driving record (MVR) - (less than 3 violations in 3 years, 0 "serious" violations in 5 years)
  • DOT, FMCSA knowledge
  • Computer literate: MS Office Suite, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, & Outlook
  • Residence: Tacoma, WA or Kirkland, WA (relocation assistance)
Background Preferred (but not required):
  • DOT Audit
  • ELD’s or Samsara
  • In-cab training experience
  • Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree
