Position Summary Responsible for the research, evaluation and purchase of ingredients and other items as requested to be manufactured into products. Process purchases within the company’s policies and procedures.
Essential Position Functions and Duties
Analyze schedule and schedule history. Evaluate available ingredient quantities. Submit purchase orders, confirm pricing and lead times, perform follow-up and maintain all documents.
Coordinate with Production Scheduler on any delays in materials.
Monitor raw material levels that have long lead times.
Negotiate with vendors/suppliers for best costs and terms.
Provide copies of purchase orders and C.O.A.'s to receiving personnel.
Coordinate and arrange material pick-ups with warehouse personnel.
Maintain log of price changes and forward to Controller prior to each quarter.
Update and maintain Item Master information in system.
Procure raw ingredient samples and specification sheets for new items that will require approval by R&D Department.
Work with R&D and vendors to locate replacement ingredients that have become obsolete or discontinued.
Coordinate the return of rejected ingredients and the receipt of credits when due.
Coordinate and maintain extensions with Q/A. Coordinate and maintain freezer/cooler items with Cycle Counter. Assist with expired products.
Other duties as assigned and back up other staff as needed.
Required Qualifications and Competencies
High School and relevant full-time experience
2-3 years experience as a buyer in the food industry or similar
Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint – Intermediate Proficiency
English Language (Speaking/Listening/Reading)
Knowledge: Must have analytical skills for determining amounts of materials to purchase, negotiate with suppliers on a professional level and forecast material needs.

Expected Working Hours This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days normally are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasionally evenings.
