Overview:
The Business Development Manager will be responsible for sourcing, developing, and closing complex energy infrastructure, ESCO, and Energy Savings Performance Contracting projects within the public sector market. This is a consultative, high-level sales role that requires navigating multi-stakeholder environments including school boards, municipal leaders, facilities directors, and financial decision-makers.
The successful candidate will lead opportunities from initial market development through contract execution and transition to implementation, working closely with engineering, project development, and executive leadership teams.
This role is ideal for a disciplined, relationship-driven sales professional who understands performance contracting, project financing, ESCO delivery models, and long-cycle infrastructure sales.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and pursue new ESCO, Energy Savings Performance Contracting, and energy infrastructure opportunities throughout Long Island and the broader NY, NJ, and PA region.
- Develop and execute a strategic territory plan aligned with company growth objectives.
- Build direct relationships with superintendents, business administrators, facilities directors, and municipal leadership.
- Lead consultative sales discussions centered on guaranteed energy savings, infrastructure modernization, operational efficiency, and long-term financial value.
- Structure and negotiate Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPC) and related project financing agreements.
- Manage the full sales lifecycle including discovery, solution development, financial modeling coordination, proposal presentation, contract negotiation, and handoff to operations.
- Collaborate with internal engineering and project development teams to design technically sound and financially viable solutions.
- Navigate complex procurement processes and public-sector approval channels.
- Maintain disciplined pipeline management and accurate forecasting.
- Represent the company at industry events, public meetings, and association gatherings to strengthen market presence.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 3+ years of successful B2B consultative sales experience in energy, infrastructure, construction, engineering, or performance contracting.
- Demonstrated experience selling into public-sector markets, preferably K-12 or municipal entities.
- Proven ability to engage C-suite, board-level, and multi-stakeholder decision environments.
- Experience with ESPC, CHP, central plant, renewable energy, or large mechanical/electrical retrofit projects strongly preferred.
- Understanding of project financing structures, public funding mechanisms, and incentive programs.
- Track record of managing long sales cycles and closing multi-million-dollar projects.
- Strong executive presence suitable for board presentations and public forums.
- Highly organized with disciplined pipeline and territory management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, or related field preferred.
