Our Client is a nationwide leader and champion for mental health. They are a private non-profit charitable organization dedicated to providing access to resources in order to maintain and improve mental health and support recovery from mental illness. They are currently seeking an Accounting and Payroll Specialist to help support the organization through its mission.

The role as Accounting and Payroll Specialist will be to assists with all aspects of payroll production and government remittances. You will ensure that all employee data in the computerized payroll system is current and payroll input is submitted to the data center on time and reconcile all reports attached to the automated payroll system. It will be your responsibility to maintain the General ledger and account reconciliation. You will complete most AR and AP and develop the budget through financial and statistical analysis.

The Ideal Candidate has a minimum of three years of experience in payroll, accounting and finance, preferably in a health care or not-for-profit environment. In addition to experience, the candidate should hold a degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance or Commerce or equivalent. They must be familiar with electronic payroll platforms, including automated payroll production, electronic fund transfers, remittances, benefits management and T4 preparation. They must operate in a confidential nature as security of individual employee information is a core responsibility of this role and can work cooperatively and effectively with finance and administration team and all other agency employees. The successful candidate will be organized, discrete, efficient and affable while demonstrating comprehensive knowledge in the following areas

  • Computerized AR and AP systems.
  • Computerized payroll systems.
  • Computerized budget preparation.
  • DC and DB pension plans, in particular HOOPP (Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan).
  • Human Resource Information Systems (e.g. Ascentis HR)
  • Not-for-profit reporting requirements.
  • Microsoft Dynamics Software, MS Products.

What will make you stand out:

  • English essential. Bilingual (French and English), an asset.
  • Completion of or enrollment in the Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification program is an asset.
  • Ability to work very independently
  • Co-operative
