Biotechnology Patent Counsel Associate

Salary: $310,000.00 - $435,000.00 per year

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic guidance on patent portfolio management, including domestic and international prosecution and enforcement.
  • Lead client engagements for strategic IP lifecycle management, focusing on complex issues related to second-generation drugs, biologics, and comprehensive international patent strategies.
  • Perform thorough due diligence assessments, deliver expert counseling on IP transactions, and devise strategies for infringement defense and avoidance.
  • Represent major biotechnology clients in significant patent disputes before the USPTO, including post-grant proceedings.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to tailor patent protection strategies that align with client objectives in both nascent and established pharmaceutical ventures.
  • Devise and execute IP strategies that enhance the value of client assets, advising on non-infringement, invalidity, and market competition aspects.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • JD from a top-tier law school with outstanding academic achievements.
  • Active Bar Admission in California.
  • At least 4 years of experience in patent counseling and prosecution in the life sciences sector.
  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous work experience within the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Expert knowledge in international patent portfolio management.
  • Proven ability to handle high-stakes IP litigation and administrative proceedings.
