Bio Patent Counseling Associate Attorney

Salary: $310,000.00 - $435,000.00 per year

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Advise life sciences clients on comprehensive patent portfolio management including development, prosecution, and enforcement across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Lead strategic IP lifecycle planning for biotechnology advancements, focusing on second-generation drugs, biologics, and comprehensive international patent strategy.
  • Conduct due diligence assessments for transactions, providing detailed counseling on infringement, defense strategies, and avoidance tactics.
  • Represent clients in patent disputes before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), focusing on post-grant proceedings and related contentious matters.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop tailored patent protection strategies that align with client goals, from discovery-stage biotechnology to well-established pharmaceutical companies.
  • Formulate and execute IP strategies that maximize the value of client assets, emphasizing non-infringement, invalidity analyses, and competitive positioning.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • JD from a top-tier law school with a notable academic record.
  • Active Bar Admission in Pennsylvania.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in patent counseling and prosecution within the life sciences industry.
  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous direct involvement with biotechnology companies and investors, with a strong focus on international patent portfolio development and lifecycle management.
  • Experience in non-infringement and invalidity analysis, as well as post-grant proceedings.
  • Prior experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
