Position Title: Automotive Powertrain Engineer

Department: Engineering

Location: Plymouth, MI

Basic Purpose and Objective

Seeking a technically strong and highly motivated Powertrain Calibration Engineer to join the company’s growing team. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in internal combustion engine emissions calibration and OBD systems who enjoys working directly with clients and cross-functional engineering teams. Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute engine and powertrain calibration activities across a range of client programs
  • Plan and allocate engineering resources in alignment with project timelines and deliverables
  • Contribute to technical studies, specification development, test planning, and data validation
  • Ensure data integrity and produce detailed technical reports and documentation
  • Review project outputs for compliance with engineering principles, industry standards, and client requirements
  • Coordinate schedules, resolve technical issues, and support engineering development activities
  • Engage directly with clients in meetings and provide timely updates on test results, progress, and emerging issues
  • Support powertrain development testing trips, including hot weather, cold weather, and high-altitude environments
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, tool development, and knowledge sharing

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required (BSME OR BSEE)
  • 0-3+ years of relevant experience in powertrain or emissions calibration
  • Exposure to OEM/automaker development processes is a strong plus
  • Solid understanding of internal combustion engines and powertrain systems
  • Foundational knowledge of emissions control components and aftertreatment systems
  • Proven experience with OBD calibration to meet automotive regulatory requirements, including:
    • Monitor development (Catalyst, Misfire, EGR, AFRIM, HEGO, CCM, and others)
    • OBD self-certification: documentation, statistics, and reporting
    • Green, 4km, and Full Useful Life limit components
    • WPA, BPU, and In-Use Monitor Performance Ratio (IUMPR)
  • Experience with tailpipe emissions compliance and fuel economy optimization
  • Familiarity with calibration and measurement tools such as INCA, ATI Vision, CANape, or CANalyzer
  • Ability to interpret C code and navigate software description resources
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
