Automation Technician

Job Summary:

The Automation Technician is responsible for leading the establishment and oversight of automated technologies in the production environment. This role involves performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain automated production and facility equipment, ensuring compliance with safety, predictive, and productive maintenance systems and processes.

Essential Functions:

· Lead the implementation and maintenance of automated machinery and systems, including PLCs, robotics, and control systems.

· Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues with automated equipment.

· Develop and execute preventive maintenance plans for automated systems, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime.

· Perform rigorous quality control checks and validation procedures on new installations or repairs to ensure adherence to industry standards and specifications.

· Create, revise, and review related SOPs or job plans for automated systems.

· Document, monitor, and maintain computerized maintenance management systems for automation equipment.

· Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of automated production equipment during production and perform scheduled maintenance during machine service periods.

· Accurately document changes and updates to automated equipment.

· Maintain and manage parts and tools, ensuring availability for all automation projects and maintenance activities.

· Ensure a clean, organized, and safe work area by complying with documentation, procedural, and applicable regulatory requirements, including safety, environmental, and housekeeping standards.

General Functions:

· Collaborates with other members of the team to ensure that deadlines are met, while minimizing machine down-time.

· Consistently abides by established safety rules, procedures, and regulations including wearing required safety equipment such as safety shoes and glasses.

· Maintains a clean and organized work environment.

· Identifies and reports issues to supervisor or manager.

· Works effectively with co-workers and supervisors, sharing knowledge, resources, and experience to achieve goals in a timely fashion, while promoting respect, communication, and teamwork.

· Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

· Participate in a rotating on call schedule to cover overnight and weekend emergency repairs as needed

· Technical skills: The ability to use advanced technical skills to install, repair and maintain all plant equipment with an emphasis on electrical systems and robotics. Adapts to new technologies and processes.

· Problem solving skills: The ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and solve complex electrical issues.

· Project management: The ability to lead, organize and oversee the work of a team to achieve specific objectives within a given time frame.

· Time management skills: The ability to work efficiently and prioritize tasks is important to minimize machine and equipment downtime.

· Communication skills: Good verbal and written communication skills are important to work effectively with other departments and team members.

· Follow directions: The ability to follow step by step standard procedures based on the manufacturer’s recommendations and trade recommendations and protocols.

· Moderate math skills: The ability to count, read, calculate and use various measures in the execution of the job.

· Attention to safety: The ability to follow safety procedures and guidelines when using tools and equipment is important to maintain a safe work environment.

· Dependability: Reliability and consistency of attendance, punctuality, and completion of assigned tasks according to established standards and expectations with little supervision.

· Computer skills: Proficiency in using software and Microsoft Office applications, including software for maintenance tracking and reporting, as well as computer diagnostic equipment.

Preferred Education and Experience:

· An associates degree, or equivalent work experience.

· At least three years of experience as a technician.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

· Physical dexterity: The employee must be able to bend, twist, crawl and reach while handling equipment and hand tools. The employee is also required to stand, walk, use hands to handle and feel, and to hear.

· Lifting: The employee must be able to lift and move items weighing up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis, and items weighing up to 80 lbs. occasionally, with the help of other employees.

· Vision: The vision requirements for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

· Endurance: The employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time and perform physical tasks in a fast-paced environment.

· Exposure to elements: The employee will be working in a warehouse environment and may be exposed to varying temperatures and inclement weather conditions. There will also be frequent exposure to dirt, dust and grease and other compounds commonly used in the execution of the job.

· Noise level: The employee will be exposed to moderate to high noise levels in the workplace for most of the day, due to the constant machine operation, use of electrical equipment and hand-held power tools.
