ATTORNEY II JOB DESCRIPTION

Reports To: Shareholder / Practice Group Lead / Of Counsel

An established and respected Midland-based practice serving individuals and businesses across West Texas. We combine trial-ready advocacy with practical, business-minded counsel across complex civil disputes, oil & gas matters, probate and fiduciary litigation, small-business disputes, and select criminal defense.
Position Summary
Attorney II is a mid-to-senior level attorney responsible for managing complex matters with limited supervision. This role requires strong drafting, research, and matter leadership skills, as well as the ability to supervise junior staff and contribute to business development.
Minimum Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited university
- Active law license in the firm’s practicing jurisdiction(s), in good standing
- 7–12+ years of legal experience
- Demonstrated ability to manage matters, deadlines, and client expectations
Key Performance Expectations
- Annual Billable Hours Target: 1,200
- Origination Target: $150,000+
- Business Development Target: 8–12%
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage complex matters and coordinate timelines, deliverables, and case execution
- Draft legal documents including pleadings, motions, discovery, and agreements
- Produce initial drafts independently and final drafts with appropriate review
- Conduct complex legal research and provide clear written recommendations
- Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and courts professionally
- Ensure quality control and adherence to firm standards
Business Development Responsibilities
- Build professional visibility and referral relationships
- Participate in networking and firm-sponsored relationship-building activities
- Contribute to origination and client expansion goals
Leadership, Supervision & Mentoring
- Oversees work of Attorneys I, Associates, and support staff as assigned
- Provides coaching on drafting, research, and matter workflow execution

Preferred Experience
- West Texas/Oil & Gas docket experience.
- Probate court practice and fiduciary litigation.
- Criminal defense trial experience.

Work Environment
- On-site in Midland, TX with regular court appearances in regional venues.
